Wood briquettes are compressed sawdust or bark, with no chemicals or additives. All three kinds in our range have the same calorific value, 17.3 to 18.5 MJ/kg. The difference lies in how they burn and which kind of firebox they suit.
RUF briquettes: for a small firebox
RUF briquettes are made from hardwood sawdust and are brick-shaped, measuring 15 × 10 × 6.5 cm. They do not expand sideways as they burn, as cylindrical briquettes do, so you can also use them in stoves, kitchen ranges and heaters with a small firebox. Their ash content is up to 0.38%.
Extra-compressed cylindrical briquettes: a long burn
Cylindrical briquettes made from a hardwood mix have a diameter of 9 cm and a length of approximately 25 cm. The sawdust in them is pressed exceptionally hard, so they burn slowly and for a long time. Their properties come closest to those of oak logs.
Bark night briquettes: heating overnight
Bark briquettes are made mainly from bark, which slows down burning. Heat is released for hours, so they are put on the fire before bedtime. In the morning, glowing embers are often still in the firebox and there is no need to light the fire again. Expect a higher ash content, up to 5%.
Summary
- Small firebox, stove or kitchen range: RUF briquettes
- A long burn during the day: extra-compressed cylindrical briquettes
- Heating overnight: bark night briquettes
