Environment

In purchasing, production, storage and transport, we look for ways to reduce our carbon footprint and conserve natural resources.

Our company has long been working towards sustainable and environmentally sound operations.

In purchasing, production, storage and placing products on the market, we take many aspects into account in order to help reduce our carbon footprint and CO2 emissions and to respect nature and natural resources.

The steps we are taking towards long-term environmentally sound operations in our company:

  • We buy FSC-certified wood from the supplier LESY SR; the certification attests to long-term, sustainable forest management. In short, trees that are felled in the forest must also be replanted. LESY SR certificate: FSC
  • We recycle 100% of the waste that reaches us or arises on our premises (glass, paper, metals, plastic, electronics, oils, compost, …)
  • We have sawdust, wood chips and other wood waste from production processed by our partners, who turn it into briquettes for us, which we then sell as products.
  • We invest in new machinery. At the turn of 2022 and 2023 we bought a new handling machine, a JCB 409 Stage V wheel loader, which uses 50% less fuel than the machinery we used before.
  • We reuse packing and packaging material that reaches us undamaged and has potential for further use. For example, we reuse cardboard boxes to pack goods sold through the online shop. Strapping and buckles are reused when packing and dispatching palletised goods.
  • We use refurbished IT equipment from our partner Techsavers, which contributes to the environmentally sound use of second-hand equipment. This reduces the amount of waste.
  • We review and assess the quantity, type, strength and quality of the packaging and packing material used for specific products, so as to minimise its use while maintaining adequate packaging quality.
  • We optimise, minimise, combine and fully load the routes of lorries carrying our products. We try to make the fullest possible use of the space in lorries and, using the RAALTRANS freight software we have purchased, we look for lorries to load from as close to our company as possible.
